UIUCares Projects

UIUCares Covid-19 Relief Fund

Umu Igbo Unite (UIU) is a non-profit organization based in the United States. UIU’s charitable arm, UIUCares, focuses on community service projects both in the United States and Nigeria. In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, UIUCares has created this PayPal Giving – UIU fund to donate food and other basic necessities to those in desperate need in Nigeria and to those members of our community who are facing economic hardship here in the United States.

The Nigerian Government’s lockdown, necessitated by the Covid-19 pandemic, created an environment that has left many Nigerians without any support. People are fighting to stay alive not only from Covid-19, but also from the already-existing hardships of poverty. With many Nigerians living under $2 a day, it is true that poverty has always been there.  That poverty has now been magnified by people’s inability to work, earn a living, and provide for their families.  Many are now left in need of food and basic essential hygiene necessities.

Here in the United States, members of our local communities have become ill, lost jobs, been forced to take unpaid time off work for Covid-19 related reasons, or have received pay cuts due to the economic downturn.  Even worse, some have lost family members.

These are very difficult times, and UIUCares is enlisting your help to support members of our community here in the United States and in Nigeria.  We are thankful for all our 15 chapters that are working hard to support their local members and will use the funds raised here to donate directly to their efforts. UIUCares is also partnering with local organizations in Nigeria to ensure that the funds raised for our efforts there are being directed to those who need them the most.

Each Nigerian household we support will receive a food package which includes the following:

Household Food Items

Garri, Rice, Beans, Sugar, Maggi, Tin Tomatoes, Spaghetti, Groundnut Oil, and Salt

Hygiene Products:

Toilet Paper and Bar Soap

Food for Motherless Homes (Orphanages):

Milk, Ceralac, Diapers and Wipes

Our Goal

Each package costs approximately 4,000 Naira. Our goal is to serve at least 50 families in Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Delta, Imo, Lagos, and Abuja. This is a total of $3,500, approximately $500 for each state.

For our members in the United States, we will provide families in need with a $50 – $100 gift card for groceries.

We are aware that these are trying times for all of us and fully understand if you are not able to give at this time. We are thankful to those who are able to give and sincerely appreciate your continued support and dedication to UIU’s efforts.

We would like to request any assistance you can donate via PayPal Giving – UIU. UIU is a 501(c)(3) organization and all donations are eligible for tax deductions.

Umu Igbo Unite would like to thank each of you for your contribution.
